I’m assuming that if you are currently reading this page, you are wondering who I am. I’m Tyler Smither.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be an archeologist. In reality, I just wanted to be Indiana Jones. When I learned that real archeologists very rarely carried whips and guns, I stopped wanting to be an archeologist.
Eventually, I decided I wanted to be a pastor. In reality, I just wanted to convince God that I really was worth loving. When I learned that isn’t how God works, I didn’t believe it. I’m only now beginning to believe it.
So, who am I?
I’m a grateful recovering addict.
I’m a disgraced, fired youth minister.
I’m a gay man.
I actually believe the crazy idea that God can redeem and restore even the most shattered of lives. I’ve seen it happen. I’ve experienced it for myself.
I am convinced, now more than ever, that the community of faithful individuals known as the Church is the single greatest hope for our world today. The message of death and resurrection, of a peace that surpasses all understanding, is news so good that it might actually change lives.
